Icom IC-41PRO Waterproof 80-Channel UHF CB Handheld
The Icom IC-41PRO is a lightweight, IP67 rated CB UHF handheld that sits comfortably between consumer walkie-talkies and full commercial radios. It's a "prosumer" radio in the truest sense, suitable for outdoor recreational use, light business work, and crews that need something more reliable than a $99 supermarket pack but aren't ready to invest in a licensed business system.
Five watts of output, 80 narrowband UHF CB channels, full waterproof and dustproof construction, and a 5-year Icom Australia warranty. At 270 grams and just over 110 mm tall, it's compact enough to live on a belt all day without becoming a nuisance.
Where the IC-41PRO fits
We position the IC-41PRO as our entry-level UHF handheld. It's the radio we recommend when budget is the leading factor and the use case sits in the lighter end of commercial work, things like traffic control, tradie crews, farm use, 4WD convoys, fishing, and weekend recreation.
For full-time professional operations across mining, large construction projects, security, government, and major events, this is not the radio we'd put in your hands. Those environments call for a commercial-grade platform with digital audio, encryption, GPS, and the engineering tolerances to match. Talk to our team if you'd like a comparison run through against your specific requirements.
What you're getting at this price point
5W of legal output power. The maximum allowable on the UHF CB network, giving you reliable range across open ground and urban worksites alike. Switchable to 1W low for closer-range conservation of battery.
Genuine IP67 sealing. Full dust ingress protection and submersion to one metre for 30 minutes. Backed by Icom rather than self-rated, which is the difference between a marketing claim and a specification you can rely on.
Around 18 to 20 hours of battery life. The supplied BP-280 2400 mAh lithium-ion pack covers a 12-hour shift with comfortable margin. Auto power-off and battery save functions extend it further on lighter-use days.
Made in Japan with a 5-year warranty. Build quality is the IC-41PRO's strongest argument over the cheaper consumer alternatives. Five years is genuinely long for a radio at this price, and Icom Australia handles servicing locally.
Smart features that earn their keep. Smart Ring and Automatic Transponder confirm when other Icom transceivers receive your call or come into range, useful when crews split up across a site or convoy. Pocket Beep alerts you to incoming signals from specified stations. CTCSS/DCS silent standby, SELCALL for direct calling, and a built-in scrambler are all available.
Useable controls. Rotary channel selector and squelch knob, both operable with gloves on. Voice announcement reads out the channel number when you change it, which sounds minor until you've spent a day with the radio belt-clipped and out of sight.
Where the IC-41PRO is not the right call
Worth being upfront about a few things before you commit:
It's a CB radio, so any other UHF CB user in range can transmit on the same channels. Fine for most light commercial and recreational use. Not appropriate where communication needs to be private or interference-free.
The built-in scrambler is basic privacy, not encryption. If communication security matters to your operation, you need a licensed business system, not a CB.
No GPS, no lone-worker, no man-down. The feature set is deliberately straightforward.
Audio is solid for the price, though commercial radios will outperform it noticeably around heavy machinery or in high-noise industrial environments.
If any of those are deal-breakers, give us a call before you order. We'll point you to the right product the first time.
Channels and programming
The IC-41PRO carries 128 channel capability, pre-programmed from the factory with the 80 narrowband UHF CB channels plus 16 CB repeater channels. A further 32 private channels are available for programming within the 450 to 480 MHz range, which requires either an ACMA business licence or use of the radio in receive-only mode.
Customers choosing the IC-41PRO for light business use commonly ask us to add private business channels alongside the standard 80 CB channels, giving the team a clear set of frequencies that won't be disturbed by passing trucks or other CB users. If you hold an ACMA licence, send through your licence details with your order and we'll programme the radios before dispatch.
For fleet orders across multiple units, our team handles the programming in-house for a small fee. Send through your radio list and channel requirements and we'll have them set up consistently before they leave the warehouse.
